Maggie Lindemann Mock Vinyl Album
Project
Through research, students were tasked with creating a vinyl album cover for a chosen artist. The cover focused on typography as the main visual element and was designed to reflect the artist’s personality and branding. All elements were created by hand without digital manipulation.
I chose pop-punk singer Maggie Lindemann as my artist, drawing inspiration from her grunge aesthetic to guide the overall look and feel of the design.
process
For The goal of this project was to recreate the feeling of a breakup album cover using photography alone. One of the main challenges was limiting myself to only physical elements, without digitally creating or altering anything in post-production.
Because of this, I experimented with different materials, lighting, and setups to achieve the final look in-camera. This approach pushed me to be more creative and intentional with each decision made.
To achieve this, I physically broke pieces of glass and wrote song titles on them using a marker, experimenting with how the text interacted with light and reflection. I also broke seven mirrors in the process, which probably means a lifetime of bad luck, but it was worth it. I tested many different backdrops and arrangements, adjusting each setup until the imagery felt raw and true to the album’s mood. These experiments helped shape the final composition and reinforced the importance of committing fully to the physical process.
